1.6 Million Adolescent Girls to Receive Cervical Cancer Vaccines

The government of Nepal is set to vaccinate 1.6 million adolescent girls against cervical cancer, announced Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel.

Speaking at the inauguration of a ‘Free Health and Eye Camp’ organized by Janakalyan Samajik Kendra in Tokha, Kathmandu, Minister Paudel emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing cervical cancer among women. “Starting February 4, the government will provide vaccines to adolescent girls nationwide to prevent the spread of cervical cancer,” he stated.

The Health Ministry has also arranged free cancer treatment for adolescent girls in five hospitals across the country, he added.

Highlighting future health initiatives, Minister Paudel said the government plans to offer free paralysis treatment and expand health insurance coverage. “The current health insurance amount of Rs 100,000 will be increased to Rs 500,000, with provisions for treatment through the insurance fund,” he said.

While acknowledging the progress in Nepal’s health sector, the minister admitted there is still significant room for improvement.
