10 Dead in Colombia Aircraft Crash

A tragic plane crash in northwestern Colombia has claimed the lives of all 10 people on board, authorities confirmed on Friday.

The small aircraft, operated by Pacifica Travel, disappeared on Wednesday while en route from Jurado to Medellin. It was later found to have crashed in a remote area of Urrao, in the Antioquia department. The victims include two crew members and eight passengers.

“Unfortunately, there are no survivors,” said Carlos Rios Puerta, director of Antioquia’s risk management department. “We have 37 personnel at the site working to recover the bodies and coordinating efforts with the judicial police.”

The recovery operation has been hampered by poor weather, which has made aerial support impossible, forcing teams to carry out the process on the ground. “We are striving to complete the recovery as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Rios added.

Pacifica Travel released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy and pledged unwavering support to the victims’ families. “We will stand by them, offering assistance and addressing all their needs during this difficult time,” the company said.

The transport ministry and civil aviation authority also extended their condolences to grieving families, many of whom have gathered at Medellin airport.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings and updates are expected to be shared as the investigation progresses.
