In a parliamentary session on Sunday, Foreign Minister NP Saud provided crucial information regarding the safety and well-being of Nepali citizens in Israel amidst the ongoing conflict. According to the Nepali Embassy in Israel, approximately 4,500 Nepali individuals are employed as caregivers in Israel, and 265 Nepali students had arrived in the country through the Israeli government’s Learn and Earn Program.
Minister Saud further detailed that among these students, 119 were from Agricultural University, 97 from Tribhuvan University, and 49 from Far-Western University. Notably, 17 students from Far-Western University were studying in Kibbutz Alumim, Israel.
However, there have been concerning developments. Three students from Far-Western University sustained injuries in the recent attack, while two are reported safe. The injured students are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Regrettably, there is no contact with the remaining 12 individuals from the group. The situation in Israel remains tense, with at least 232 people reported dead and 1,600 wounded due to the attack by Hamas forces. Nepal’s government is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens in Israel.
This morning, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ convened a meeting to establish a coordination mechanism ensuring that all relevant agencies are under the coordination of the Foreign Minister.
Minister Saud stated that the committee has been tasked with comprehending the details of the incident and assessing the situation of Nepali nationals in Israel following the incident, with the goal of facilitating their rescue.
He further explained that upon learning of the attack in southern Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed the Nepali Embassy in Israel to initiate the necessary rescue, facilitation, and coordination efforts, while also gathering accurate information about the condition of Nepali citizens in the area. Minister Saud also noted ongoing coordination with the Israeli government.
In his address to parliament, Minister Saud mentioned that it has been confirmed that Hamas militants entered and launched attacks on the southern region of Israel via water, air, and land, leading to the hostage-taking of local residents.
