14 Applicants Vie for Managing Director Position at Nepal Oil Corporation
In response to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies’ open competition, a total of 14 candidates have submitted applications to assume the role of Managing Director at the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
The applicants, hailing from diverse backgrounds, include Kamalendra Lal Karna of Mahottari, Uttarkumar Regmi of Kathmandu, Er Sahadev Chand, Dilip Shekhar Shrestha, Er Dr Dolprasad Chapagai of Chitwan, Pankaj Kumar Das of Morang, Madhav Regmi, and Er Amod Prasad Chaudhary, among others.
The application period, open to qualified Nepali citizens following the guidelines set for the appointment and nomination of public body officials by the ministry, concluded 21 days after the notice was published on December 23.
The vacancy arose following the resignation of Umesh Prasad Thani from the position of Managing Director on December 12, who had been appointed for a three-year term on March 10, 2022. Despite serving only 21 months of his tenure, Thani successfully reduced the NOC’s debt by Rs 50 billion, leaving the corporation in a profitable state.
Currently, CA Nagendra Sah is holding the position of acting Managing Director following Thani’s departure. The Ministry plans to recommend three candidates out of the 14 applicants to the Cabinet, which will then make the final appointment. The competitive selection process marks a significant step in the continued development of Nepal’s energy sector.
