14 Dead as Indian Bus Plunges into Marsyangdi River in Tanahun

At least 14 people lost their lives when a bus with an Indian number plate plunged into the Marsyangdi River at Aina Pahara in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun, along the Prithvi Highway this afternoon.

The bus, bearing the registration number UP 53 FT 7623, was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara when it veered off the road and fell into the river. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Kumar Raya of Tanahun, the bus was carrying around 40 Indian nationals, though the exact number of passengers has not yet been confirmed.

Sixteen passengers have been rescued from the river so far. A 10-member team of divers from the Armed Police Force (APF) has been mobilized at the scene, working alongside the Nepali Army and Nepal Police to continue the rescue operation.

Joint-Spokesperson of the APF, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa, reported that the rescued passengers are being taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities work to locate any remaining passengers.
