18 Families Relocated After Dry Landslide Strikes Humla’s Tilgaun
MP Urges Government to Rescue Landslide-Hit Families

A dry landslide has struck Tilgaun in Namkha Rural Municipality–6 of Humla district, prompting the relocation of 18 at-risk families to safer ground.
According to security officials, the landslide originated from the northern slopes above Tilgaun and caused damage to several homes in the area. Fortunately, no human or livestock casualties have been reported.
The Armed Police Force from the Nepal Border Outpost in Hilsa has been deployed to the affected site, bringing essential disaster relief supplies and temporary shelter materials. Authorities are actively working to support the displaced families.
While the exact cause of the landslide remains unclear, officials suspect the involvement of a glacial source, as water has been observed flowing along with the debris. A team has begun on-site assessments to determine whether a glacier exists at the suspected location.
DSP Shailendra Thapa, Co-Spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, confirmed the situation is under control and that further monitoring is ongoing to assess any additional risks.
Earlier today, Member of the House of Representatives, Tshering Damdul Lama, has called on the government to take immediate action to rescue and support residents of Tilgaun in Namkha Rural Municipality–6, Humla, who have been affected by a recent landslide triggered by a glacial lake outburst.
Speaking during Monday’s parliamentary session, Lama urged the government to dispatch urgent rescue teams and provide relief assistance to the displaced families. He said that 18 households have been forced to take shelter under tarpaulin sheets in nearby farmland after the landslide struck the village on May 15 and 16.
Highlighting the increasing vulnerability of mountainous settlements to climate-induced disasters, the lawmaker emphasized the need for swift and sustained government intervention. Lama warned that failure to act could endanger more lives in remote, disaster-prone areas like Humla.
