Tharka Man Lama, a 45-year-old resident of Kavre, has been apprehended by the Valley Crime Investigation Office in connection with a significant gold smuggling operation totaling 61 kilograms. The arrest took place in Lazimpat, marking a crucial development in the ongoing investigation into the illicit activity.
Earlier, a dedicated commission tasked with probing the intricate details of the smuggling case had recommended further investigations targeting several suspects. Lama’s apprehension aligns with this recommendation, affirming law enforcement’s commitment to unraveling the complex network behind the smuggling ring.
Initially, the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) spearheaded the inquiry into the gold smuggling affair. However, following the commission’s comprehensive report, which highlighted potential lapses in the initial probe, scrutiny has expanded to include officials implicated in the earlier stages of the investigation.
At present, the investigation has entered its second phase, as stipulated by the commission’s report, signaling a concerted effort to pursue all leads and bring those responsible to justice.
