59th SAARC Programming Committee Meeting Kicks Off in Kathmandu
The 59th session of the Programming Committee of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) commenced today in Kathmandu, marking a pivotal moment for regional cooperation and collaboration. Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, in her role as Chief Guest, addressed the inaugural session of the Programming Committee, emphasizing the critical role of SAARC in advancing common goals among member states.
Foreign Secretary Lamsal highlighted the significance of SAARC as a vital forum for fostering regional cooperation and stressed the necessity of injecting new momentum into the organization’s activities. The meeting, chaired by Joint Secretary Rita Dhital of the Regional Organisation Division, saw the participation of delegations led by Joint Secretary/Director Generals from the Ministries of Foreign/External Affairs of SAARC member states.
The Programming Committee, a Charter Body of SAARC, comprises heads of SAARC Divisions (joint secretary/director general) from the ministries of foreign/external affairs or National Focal Points of SAARC member states. Discussions during the meeting are expected to cover a wide range of regional issues and initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation and solidarity among South Asian nations.
