67 industries in operation with foreign investment in Lumbini Province
Sixty-seven industries are in operation with foreign investment in Lumbini Province. Of them, 34 are small-scale industries, 16 middle-scale and 17 large-scale.
At an interaction with International Finance Corporation in Butwal, member of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and President of Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ujjwal Prasad Kasaju, presented this data putting forth his remarks on the possibility and challenges of business in Lumbini Province.
Stating Lumbini Province is also an attractive area of foreign investment, he mentioned that service-oriented, production-oriented and tourism sectors are the first choice of foreign investment.
There are also 882 big industries, around 25,000 cottage and small industries and around 150,000 commercial firms in Lumbini Province.
Kasaju further said that there was a possibility of industry based on agriculture and forest fodders and tourism industry in the Province. There is around 14 per cent contribution of Lumbini Province to the Gross Domestic Product of the country as well as two industrial areas and a special economic zone in Bhairahawa.
Similarly, there are also Bhairahawa-Lumbini, Butwal-Bhairahawa, Bhairahawa-Parasi and Parasi-Bhumahi main industrial corridors. Likewise, there is a proposed Motipur industrial area in Rupandehi and Naubasta industrial area in Banke.
