7.65 kg Gold Seized at Rasuwagadhi Checkpoint

Nepal Police have seized 7.65 kilograms of gold smuggled into the country from China via the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hem Bahadur Shahi of the Rasuwa District Police Office said the contraband gold was recovered from a truck (Ba 4 Kha 6201) that was transporting apples. The estimated market value of the seized gold exceeds Rs 111 million.

Police have detained the truck driver, 24-year-old Kishore Bhujel of Syafrubesi, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality–5. Bhujel, originally from another district, had reportedly migrated to Rasuwa in recent years.

The suspect is being handed over to the Rasuwa Customs Office in Timure for further legal action, according to DSP Shahi.

Since December 2015, security agencies stationed at the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint have confiscated a total of 65.69 kilograms of smuggled gold, which has been transferred to the concerned authorities for investigation and prosecution.
