The 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is set to begin tomorrow, running from September 10th to 30th, under the theme “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” The high-level general discussion will commence on September 24 and continue through September 28, concluding on September 30.
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, leading the Nepali delegation, is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 26. This year’s UNGA will see heads of state and government from around the world participating in discussions focused on global issues such as the ongoing wars, their impact on global stability, post-COVID inflation and poverty, climate change, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The New York-based Nepali Mission has stated that Nepal will prioritize participation in high-level political forums and sideline meetings with development partners. In line with its commitment to the SDGs, Nepal will present its achievements at the ‘Summit of the Future 2024,’ taking place in New York from September 22 to 23.
