8 people arrested for extorting money by claiming to be IRD officials

The police have arrested 8 people on the charge of extorting money impersonating to be employees of the Inland Revenue Department, Lazimpat.

They were arrested on charges of extorting more than 5 lakh rupees from hotels, restaurants, and shops in the bus park area of Kathmandu.

Those arrested are Meen Bahadur BK, Srijan Bhattarai, Sagar Jang Luhar, Pramisa Tamang, Dudhkala BK, Anjana Tamang, Rajiv Bista, and David Dhami, informs SSP Bharat Bohra.

They were wearing the same uniform as the employees of the Inland Revenue Department and were also carrying identity cards.

A local businessperson called the police after he got suspicious.

The police say that stamps, letter pads, receipts, and identity cards similar to those of the Inland Revenue Department were found in Rajiv Bista’s rented flat.
