NC’s Ram Chandra Poudel files candidacy for President
Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has filed his candidacy for the presidential election.
Poudel registered his candidacy reaching the Office of the Election Officer at New Baneshwar on Saturday.
The meeting of the NC Central Executive Committee held this morning at the party’s central office, Sanepa had unanimously decided to nominate Poudel as the presidential candidate.
Poudel’s candidacy was proposed by Sher Bahadur Deuba, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Narayan kaji Shrestha, Ashok Kumar Rai and Abdul Khan, while the proposal was seconded by Mahanta Thakur, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Ranjita Shrestha, Chitra Bahadur KC and Hitraj Pandey.
Senior leader Poudel is a former speaker and is currently serving his 6th term as a lawmaker in the House of Representatives.
With a newly formed eight-party alliance supporting Paudel, Poudel is almost certain to win the race.
Eight political parties including the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) had decided to support Congress candidate in the election of President.
The parties had taken the decision during a meeting held at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday evening.
The voting for the election of the Head of the State will take place from 10 am to 3 pm on March 9.
