Newly appointed US Ambassador Dean Thompson arrived in Kathmandu
US Ambassador to Nepal Dean Thompson, appointed by the administration of American President Joe Biden, arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday evening to take charge. He arrived in Kathmandu with his wife Jane and the family dog Bogi.
Thomson, a senior official of the US State Department, took the oath of office on October 1.
He replaced Randy Berry, the US ambassador to Nepal.
He was working as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until he was appointed Ambassador of Nepal. He was the Acting Assistant Secretary from 2020 to 2021.
Thompson has served as Consul General at the US Consulate General in Kolkata, India. Apart from English, he is fluent in Romanian and Bengali languages.
