RSP’s Wagle rattles traditional political parties with landslide victory in Tanahun-1

Dr. Swarnim Wagle, the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party, has won the election to become a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from constituency no. 1 of Tanahun district. He secured a total of 34,911 votes in the by-election, according to Min Bahadur Kunwar, the assistant election officer.

His closest competitor, Govinda Bhattarai of Nepali Congress, collected 20,122 votes, while Sarbendra Khanal of CPN UML received 8,488 votes. The results also showed that Shova Gurung of Rastriya Prajanatra Party received 218 votes, Bhim Bahadur Sunar of Nagarik Unmukti Party received 99 votes, Ram Prasad Prajapati of NWPP received 31 votes, Prem Bahadur Thapa of Mongol National Organization received 166 votes, Purna Bahadur Rana of Rastriya Janamukti received 87 votes, and Ganesh Shrestha of CPN Socialist received 5 votes.

A total of 65,316 votes were cast in the by-election, out of which 64,135 were considered valid. The by-election for the HoR member was held on April 23 in Tanahun-1, after the post had become vacant due to the election of HoR member and Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel as the President.
