UML vice president Badal’s security advisor arrested in Bhutanese refugee case

Former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal”s security advisor Dr. Indrajit Rai has been arrested for his involvement in making fake Bhutanese refugees and sending them to America.

Police arrested him from Thechu in Lalitpur on Tuesday morning.

SSP Dan Bahadur Karki informed that Rai was arrested from his residence in Thechu, Lalitpur, for which a warrant was issued by the public prosecutor’s office.

The police allege that he played the main role in defrauding Nepalis of millions of rupees by making them Bhutanese refugees and sending them to America.

UML vice president Badal was working as a security adviser from March 2018 to July 2021 when he was the home minister. He was arrested by the police based on the statement of the person who was arrested earlier.

When Rai was in the Ministry of Home Affairs, from making policy decisions to creating fake refugees, the way to extort up to 50 million rupees was opened. The person who collected the money from the victim has also given a statement that he paid the money to Rai.

Earlier in the same incident, police arrested UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamazhi’s aide Sanu Bhandari and Congress leader Sujata Koirala’s former personal secretary Keshav Dulal along with Sagar Thulung, Tank Gurung and Sandesh Sharma.

The names of Badal’s son Prateek, Indrajit Rai’s son Niraj and Top Bahadur Rayamazhi’s son Sandeep have also been linked to this case.
