High-profile Arrests in Nepal: Vice President Office Secretary Detained, UML Secretary and Son Sought for Arrest

Former Energy Minister and CPN-UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and his son Sandeep have been issued an arrest warrant by the Kathmandu District Court in connection with a case involving cheating individuals by promising to send them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.

On Wednesday, the Nepal Police obtained the arrest warrant against the former minister and his son.

Furthermore, Tek Narayan Pandey, the Secretary at the Vice President’s Office and former Home Secretary, was arrested in the same case earlier on the same day.

Pandey was the Home Secretary from 11 August 2021 to 18 September 2022.

Additionally, Indrajit Rai, former security advisor of the ex-Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, was apprehended by the police on Tuesday for the same crime. Furthermore, the police have also issued arrest warrants against Indrajit’s son Niraj Rai and Badal’s son Prateek Thapa.

The police have already detained several individuals, including Sanu Bhandari of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, Keshav Prasad Dulal of Pathari Sanischare Municipality of Morang, Tanka Kumar Gurung of Phidim Municipality of Panchthar, and Sandesh Sharma of Pathari, in connection to the same case.
