Government’s Decision on Cash Relief for Ex-Maoists Combatants Halted
The Supreme Court has issued an order directing the government to refrain from immediately implementing its decision to distribute 2/2 lakh rupees to disqualified ex-Maoists. The court, in a short-term interim order, has halted the execution of the government’s decision and summoned representatives from both sides for further discussions.
This order was issued by Supreme Court Judge Kumar Regmi, who presided over the single bench responsible for the case. Advocate Gyanendra Raj Aran filed a writ challenging the government’s decision, prompting the court’s intervention.
The government had previously made the decision to provide a cash relief of Rs200,000 per person to disqualified former Maoist combatants. However, following the writ filed against this decision, the Supreme Court has temporarily suspended its implementation.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs had already initiated the process of verifying eligible combatants and had devised a procedure for the distribution of relief funds. However, the implementation of this process will now be put on hold until further deliberations and discussions take place as per the Supreme Court’s order.
