Oppositions Obstructs Parliament, Meeting Postponed for One Hour

The parliamentary session hit a roadblock today as opposition parties resorted to obstruction , leading to the postponement of the meeting for one hour. Tensions ran high as Members of Parliament from various opposition parties voiced their discontent and created a challenging environment for the functioning of the legislature.

The obstruction was primarily led by MPs from the opposition, including the CPN-UML, who stood up as soon as the session commenced on Sunday. Their actions aimed to express dissatisfaction with the ongoing proceedings and the certification of the Citizenship Bill.

Amidst the commotion, Speaker Devraj Ghimire allowed time for the opposition members to air their grievances. Padam Giri, Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, strongly objected to what he deemed an unconstitutional verification process of the defunct Citizenship Bill. Giri demanded the bill be kept inactive and replaced with a new version that aligns with constitutional principles.

Giri’s objections were compounded by allegations against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who purportedly expressed a willingness to exchange Kalapani for the Phulwari port of Bangladesh during his recent visit to India. Giri called upon the Prime Minister to issue an apology within the parliament, warning that the obstruction would persist until this condition was met.

Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of the RSP, echoed the concerns raised by the CPN-UML, arguing that the verification process of the Citizenship Bill was flawed and needed to be rectified.

Rajendra Lingden, Chairman of the RPP, joined the protest and criticized the alleged misuse of the presidential institution for personal gain. Lingden emphasized the need for transparent and responsible governance.

In light of the opposition’s obstructive stance, the parliamentary session is temporarily adjourned for one hour.
