PM Prachanda Urges Madhav Nepal to Abstain from Opposing Budget

In a bid to maintain unity within the ruling alliance, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urged members of the CPN Unified Socialist Party not to oppose the budget presented by the government for the upcoming financial year.

During a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Monday morning, Prime Minister Prachanda invited parliamentarians, including Madhav Nepal, Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party, to discuss the ongoing protests against the budget.

As tensions rose following the exclusion of the Unified Socialists’ plans from the budget, Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the importance of unity within the government. A member of parliament who attended the meeting quoted the Prime Minister, saying, “Unified Socialist is part of the ruling alliance. It is not appropriate for us to oppose the budget after being in the government. The budget has been formulated under challenging circumstances, and we should move forward by cooperating with it.”

The Unified Socialists have been protesting against the budget for the next financial year, alleging that the allocation of funds was based on the leaders’ personal power and authority rather than following the legal system. Deputy General Secretary Gangalal Tuladhar expressed their objections to the budget, stating that it deviated from the prescribed legal procedures.
