Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan and Sri Lanka to Share Hosting Duties
The uncertainty surrounding the Asia Cup 2023 has finally been resolved, as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced on Thursday that the tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model. Four matches will be held in Pakistan, while the remaining nine matches will take place in Sri Lanka.
The tournament, scheduled to run from August 31 to September 17, will see a total of six teams competing for the prestigious title. The participating teams include full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from Asia, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Additionally, Associate Member Nepal has also earned a place in the tournament, further highlighting the growing influence of cricket beyond traditional cricketing powerhouses.
With the introduction of the hybrid model, Nepal will now have the opportunity to showcase their talent in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The team will play one of its group matches in Pakistan and the other in Sri Lanka, providing them with a diverse playing experience against formidable opponents.
The Asia Cup 2023 initially designated Pakistan as the host country.
However, the tournament’s future became uncertain when India declined to play matches in Pakistan. Participating teams include ICC full members from Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) and Associate Member Nepal.
The six teams are divided into two groups, with Nepal competing against India and Pakistan in Group A. Sri Lanka holds the title of defending champion.
