Nepali Soldier Found Dead in UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan

A Nepali soldier serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan has been discovered deceased. Ram Bahadur Bantha, a soldier working with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), was found dead on Thursday.

The Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information revealed that Bantha’s body was found with a noose around his neck, suggesting the possibility of suicide. The distressing incident occurred in the vehicle workshop of the GAN headquarters in Rumbek, South Sudan, where the peacekeeping GAN is stationed.

Bantha hailed from Khalanga rural municipality-6 of Jajarkot, Nepal. Currently, his body is undergoing a post-mortem process, and investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death. The Nepali Army is coordinating the necessary procedures to repatriate his remains to his homeland following the completion of the post-mortem.
