PM Deuba performs Chhath puja in Kathmandu, his spouse in Janakpur

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba worshipped Chhathi Mai (Goddess) reaching the Chhath puja site built on the bank of the Bagmati River at Thapathali, Kathmandu this evening.

PM Deuba garlanded the statue of Chhathi Mai installed at the puja site and made offerings to the setting sun on the occasion of the Chhath festival today.

Chhath festival is celebrated for four days from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Kartik Shukla Saptami as per the lunar calendar.

Today is the main day of the four-day Chhath festival when the offerings are made to the setting sun and the devotees worship the Sun God by making offerings to the rising sun preferably being around the ponds, lakes and rivers.

Chairperson of Chhath Puja Committee at Kupandole, Rajiv Sinha, shared that the Chhath festival comes to an end after an offering is made to the rising sun tomorrow morning. Devotees, especially those observing fasting on the day, today stay awake the whole night.

He expressed his belief that the Chhath festival would help in promoting national unity and bring forth peace, prosperity and happiness.

In Kathmandu, spaces for puja were created along the riverside at Guiheshwori, Kamalpokhari and Thapathali, among others.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Deuba’s spouse and Nepali Congress’ central member Arzu Rana Deuba also made offerings to the setting sun today evening on the occasion of Chhath.

The Prime Ministers’ spouse reached Gangasagar at Janakpurdham in Dhanusha district to worship and pray the Sun God on the occasion.

Arzu Deuba is scheduled to visit a pond in Dhanusha on Monday morning to make offerings to the rising sun, according to Deuba’s press coordinator Asha Thapaliya. (RSS)
