Uttarakhand Landslide: 13 Nepalis Missing
In a tragic incident, a landslide near Gauri Kunda on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in Uttarakhand, India, has left as many as 13 Nepali individuals missing. The incident occurred on Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the region. Jana Maya Rokaya, the vice chairperson of Patarashi Rural Municipality in Jumla, revealed that among the missing, 12 are from wards 2 and 3 of the rural municipality. Contrary to some news reports indicating 25 missing Nepalis, Rokaya clarified that they have confirmed information about 12 individuals so far, with a particularly heart-wrenching detail that seven of the missing belong to a single family.
The distressing incident has also caught the attention of Uttarakhand-based news portal HillVani, which has reported a higher toll. According to their sources, a total of 19 people are missing, encompassing 13 Nepali nationals along with three local residents of Uttarakhand and three individuals from other Indian states. Nandan Singh Rajbar, the Crisis Management Officer of Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, provided this information, highlighting the extent of the tragedy.
Rescue operations are currently underway, with dedicated teams of rescue workers tirelessly sifting through the debris.
