Frustration Mounts as Parliamentary Meeting Delayed: Lamichhane Speaks Up

Rabi Lamichhane, the President of Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has expressed his strong dissatisfaction and anger over the continued delay and obstruction of the House of Representatives’ meeting. The meeting, originally scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, was postponed to 4 pm, but even at 5 pm, it had not commenced, leading to Lamichhane voicing his frustration.

Taking to social media, Lamichhane expressed his concerns, stating, “We are understanding clearly how the country has been paralyzed for years. Many laws have to be made, many laws have to be amended. Many issues of public concern have to be discussed and decided. But the parliament isn’t functioning, bargaining goes on, only bargaining. Sad…”

The main opposition CPN-UML has been obstructing both houses of federal parliament demanding a high-level panel to investigate the recent gold smuggling case. This obstruction, which began on July 26, has led to a stalemate in parliamentary proceedings.

Earlier today, the meeting of the top leaders from three major political parties, aimed at resolving the ongoing parliamentary obstruction, concluded today without reaching a consensus. It was announced that the meeting will reconvene later today at 3:30 p.m., in a renewed effort to find common ground.

Although the parliamentary session rescheduled to 4 p.m., it has not been started yet and the top leaders meeting including Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli is still underway.
