People’s Voices Stifled by Parliamentary Interruption: Speaker Ghimire

Devaraj Ghimire, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has voiced his concern over the interruption in parliamentary proceedings, stating that the voice of the people has been silenced due to the ongoing obstruction. Following a crucial meeting of party leaders held in New Baneshwar, Speaker Ghimire revealed that despite serious deliberations among top leaders, including the Prime Minister, a conclusive agreement has not yet been reached between the ruling parties and the main opposition.

In a statement relayed by his press advisor Shekhar Adhikari, Speaker Ghimire shared, “I appreciate the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of my efforts to resolve the parliamentary impasse. Equally, I extend my gratitude to all leaders who participated in the discussions.” He further announced that a meeting has been scheduled at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m., with hopes that an agreement can be forged before the parliamentary session at 3 pm.

Speaker Ghimire emphasized the importance of consensus, underscoring that the people’s voices are stifled when the parliamentary process is hindered. “Numerous critical matters, including concerns related to natural disasters, remain unaddressed due to the disruption,” he lamented. He stressed his commitment to fostering mutual trust, unity, and cooperation among the parties, noting that he has rescheduled meetings multiple times in an effort to accommodate consensus-building.
