UML Again Halts HoR Meeting

The main opposition CPN (UML) once again brought the proceedings of the House of Representatives (HoR) to a halt on Wednesday. The session, which had convened to address important legislative matters, was cut short due to relentless disruptions by CPN (UML) lawmakers.

The CPN (UML) members made their presence felt with fervent slogans demanding immediate action in response to the recent gold smuggling allegations. The lawmakers called for the establishment of a high-level committee to investigate the alleged gold smuggling activities. Their spirited chants reverberated throughout the parliamentary chambers, creating an atmosphere of intensity.

Converging around the central area of the HoR, the CPN (UML) legislators demanded the prompt formation of the inquiry committee.

In a swift response to the mounting disruptions, Speaker Devraj Ghimire took the decision to adjourn the session prematurely. The adjournment effectively brought the day’s legislative proceedings to an end, leaving several agenda items unaddressed. The Speaker announced that the next meeting would convene at 1 pm on Friday, as the political landscape braces for further clashes and discussions.

This disruption comes on the heels of Tuesday’s session, during which Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha sought to reassure the Parliament and the public alike. He affirmed the government’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the alleged gold smuggling case. The Home Minister’s statement aimed to address concerns and speculation surrounding the issue, but it appears that the CPN (UML) remains steadfast in its demand for a dedicated high-level committee to oversee the inquiry.
