RSP’s Bold Decision: Sacrificing Benefits Amid Parliament Disruption
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken a firm stance by announcing that its parliamentary members will forego service benefits while the obstruction of the Parliament continues.
In an official communication directed to Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Friday, Rabi Lamichhane, leader of the RSP parliamentary faction, expressed the party’s resolute commitment. The statement read, “We hereby solemnly convey our unwavering commitment, through the honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), to abstain from acquiring any benefits while the parliamentary proceedings remain disrupted due to prevailing political discord.”
Lamichhane further highlighted that the ongoing obstruction of parliamentary activities encroaches upon the fundamental rights of the parliamentarians. The disruption hampers their capacity to engage in crucial discussions concerning the public, address everyday concerns, and tackle the nation’s challenges.
The letter to the Speaker also included an appeal to take necessary actions in order to restore the regular course of the ongoing legislative session.
The consistent disruptions, largely initiated by the CPN-UML’s persistent demand for the establishment of a high-level investigative committee to probe the 100-kilos gold smuggling case, have impeded the Parliament’s normal functioning.
