Gorkha’s Treasured Quartz Crystal to Grace Gorkha Durbar Premises

A luminous quartz crystal unearthed from Satipipal in Gorkha Municipality-7, Gorkha district, is set to find its new home within the Gorkha Durbar premises, symbolizing a Bhagawati Shila (sacred stone).

Weighing a substantial 52 kg 330 grams, the precious stone, which had been venerated by a local family, will now be housed within the historical Gorkha Durbar, a decision collectively reached during an all-party meeting held on Sunday.

The luminous rock, a revered emblem of power for the local Gorkhali people, was discovered on June 29 in the residence of Ram Maya Shahi. The family had nurtured a tradition of worshiping the stone within their home for numerous years.

Municipality Deputy Mayor Masali Maya Thokar reported that the decision to enshrine the stone within the palace premises was driven by the heartfelt demands of the Shahi family and local residents. The all-party meeting, attended by more than 17 local organizations, mayor Krishna Bahadur Ranamagar, and intellectual representatives, firmly agreed to prevent the stone’s removal from the district.

“The luminous stone, cherished as a symbol of strength by local Gorkhali individuals, will remain within the palace precincts as per the decision of the all-party meeting, ensuring it remains close to the hearts of the people,” Thokar stated.

The accord between the local administration and stakeholders underscores the significance of retaining the stone within its native region. Moreover, a formal communication outlining the resolution will be dispatched to Nepal’s Government, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Mines and Geology, and the Department of Archaeology.

Additionally, directives have been issued to inform the Gorkha District Administration Office and the Gorkha District Police Office regarding this significant decision.

Previously, the Department of Mines and Geology officially identified the radiant stone as a substantial piece of quartz crystal, affirming its remarkable nature.
