Major Child Trafficking Ring Busted: Six, Including Doctors, Apprehended in Biratnagar

A shocking case of newborn trafficking has come to light in Biratnagar, as six individuals, including doctors and hospital staff, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the illicit trade of infants. The arrests were made in connection with a case involving the Green Cross Hospital, with Dr. Tapeshwar Lal Karna, an employee of the hospital, and Dipesh Medical Hall’s director among those apprehended.

The arrest operation, conducted by local authorities, revealed a disturbing network that reportedly operated within the confines of the hospital. Among the six individuals taken into custody were a hospital employee, the baby’s father, a doctor, and three other associates.

According to the Morang District Police Office, the case revolves around a missing newborn who was born in the hospital on June 28. Law enforcement initiated an investigation into the matter, and the missing child was fortunately located and rescued.

Dr. Karna, a former medical superintendent at Kosi Hospital, allegedly played a central role in the trafficking scheme. It is alleged that he orchestrated the sale of the newborn to Dilmaya Rajwanshi of Morang Kathari Rural Municipality 2 Adarsh Tol. The exact sum for which the baby was sold is currently under investigation.

The incident came to the authorities’ attention after an unmarried couple reported the disappearance of their newborn. The young woman had given birth to a baby girl at Green cross Hospital on June 28. Following the birth, both the baby and her partner went missing, prompting the mother to file a complaint.

The investigation unveiled a complex web of deceit and malpractice. Reportedly, Dr. Karna received Rs 35,000 from the father, Govind Rai, and took responsibility for the child’s care. The hospital records were manipulated to hide the true identities of the involved parties. Govind was recorded as Man Bahadur Tamang and the woman as Phulkumari Tamang, with a falsified address in Sunsari.

The hospital’s records indicate that the woman was discharged on June 29 after being administered painkillers. The investigation further revealed that Rai had signed the discharge documents for the newborn.

As the investigation deepens, authorities are determined to uncover the full extent of this horrifying child trafficking operation and ensure that justice is served for all those affected by this heinous crime.
