Saptakosi River Overflows, High alert issued

An alert has been raised as the water level of the Saptakosi River has undergone a substantial increase, causing heightened concerns over potential flooding.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has recently released a report indicating that the water level at the Chatara monitoring station has surged beyond the critical threshold of 6 meters, prompting a call for immediate attention.

This surge in water levels is not limited to the Saptakosi River alone. The Tamor, Sunkosi, and Arun rivers have all registered elevated water levels, further contributing to the growing apprehension.

In response to this situation, the Department has issued advisory notices to residents residing in the vulnerable coastal areas of Udayapur, Sunsari, and Saptari. These regions are particularly prone to flooding and its associated risks. The Department strongly urges residents to maintain a high level of vigilance and caution, especially as the evening approaches.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety of the affected communities.
