Nepali Army Major Missing in Dolpa: Search Operations Launched by Army, Armed Forces, and Police
The whereabouts of Major Bimal Pandit, a soldier stationed at Dunai Barracks under the Nanda Baks Battalion of the Nepali Army in Dolpa, remain uncertain even 48 hours after his disappearance.
Major Pandit, who was assigned to the Nanda Baks Battalion at the Dunai barracks, headquartered in Dolpa, went missing on Sunday evening, prompting a joint search operation by the army, armed forces, and police.
Karnali Police Chief, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal, confirmed on Tuesday morning that efforts are ongoing to locate Major Pandit. Security forces have been mobilized for the search, aided by technical analysis.
“Contact has been established with his family, and the search operation is being coordinated with various security agencies,” DIG Dhakal stated in a telephone conversation with Pardafas.
Similarly, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shiva Budhathoki of District Police Office Dolpa shared that they, along with the army, initiated the search early in the morning. Major Pandit had been stationed at the barracks in Bhadale, Dunai, and efforts are concentrated on locating him.
Chief District Officer of Dolpa, Bhumishwar Pokhrel, revealed on Monday that Major Pandit had become unreachable. It’s been reported that he left for Tripura on Sunday evening without his security guard. A network issue has complicated communication efforts, making the search more challenging.
Chief District Officer Pokhrel informed that a police team, led by DSP, has been dispatched from the District Police Office to Tripura for the search operation.
“A team, along with the DSP, has been sent to Tripura for the search,” he confirmed.
As the search operations continue, concerns grow for Major Pandit’s well-being. The coordinated efforts of Nepal’s armed forces, police, and security agencies underscore their commitment to locating and ensuring the safety of the missing army major.
