PM’s US Visit, Who Will He Meet at the UNGA?
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to embark on a significant international journey this Saturday (tomorrow) as he heads to the United States to participate in the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Prime Minister Prachanda’s agenda includes addressing the UNGA on September 21. The overarching theme of this year’s UNGA General Debate is “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All.”
During his stay in the United States, Prachanda will be an active participant in the opening session of the General Debate and attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden on September 19.
Furthermore, Prachanda will extend his engagement by participating in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit and the Climate Ambition Summit, both held alongside the UNGA. The itinerary also includes meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and bilateral discussions with leaders from various nations.
Accompanying the Prime Minister on this diplomatic mission are Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal, his daughter Ganga Dahal, and other high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It’s noteworthy that Foreign Minister N P Saud has already left for New York on Tuesday to prepare for the Prime Minister’s visit.
After a five-day stay in the US, Prime Minister Prachanda will fly directly to Beijing, China. This visit is seen as a significant effort by the senior Maoist leader to balance Nepal’s relations with both China and India.
In addition to diplomatic engagements, Prachanda will also attend the inauguration of the Asian Games taking place in Guangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.
