President Paudel Joins Indrajatra Festivities, Heads to Basantpur on Foot (Photos)

In a symbolic gesture of unity and reverence for tradition, President Ram Chandra Paudel embraced the Indrajatra festivities today, embarking on a journey by foot to Basantpur, owing to a ban on vehicles in the heritage area by Kathmandu metropolis.

The Indrajatra festival, a celebration of rain and a prosperous harvest, has long been a cherished cultural event in Nepal. President Paudel, along with other dignitaries, made the decision to forego vehicles as they walked to Basantpur to witness the grandeur of this time-honored tradition.

At Basantpur, the President immersed himself in the vibrant atmosphere of the festival, paying homage to Lord Indra and participating in the festivities. The focal point of the celebration is the chariot procession featuring revered deities Shri Ganesh, Shri Bhairav, and Shri Kumari, the living goddess.

Joining President Paudel in this unique experience were Vice President, Speaker, Chief Justice, Ministers, Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu metropolis. The ban on vehicles in the heritage area prompted this decision to journey on foot, reflecting a commitment to preserving Nepal’s cultural heritage.

Even foreign tourists were captivated by the allure of the Indra Jatra festival, as they flocked to Basantpur to witness this spectacular display of tradition and devotion.

The Indra Jatra festival, observed on Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi in the Nepali calendar, is not limited to Kathmandu. It is also celebrated in Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, and Dolakha, promising eight days of cultural immersion and festivity for all to enjoy.
