After 2.5 Years on the Run, Accused in Assault on TU Vice-Professor Apprehended

Sayus Shrestha, one of the accused individuals in the assault on Tribhuvan University Vice-Professor Prem Chalaune, has been apprehended by the police in Ratopul today. Shrestha had evaded authorities for over two and a half years since defying a Patan High Court order.

Two of the seven members of the Nepal Students Union who were implicated in the attack on Professor Chalaune had been fugitives from the law. The Patan High Court had issued a mandate for each of them to post a bond of Rs 500,000 and provide an interim compensation of Rs one lakh.

The district court had issued an arrest warrant for the accused individuals two years ago to enforce the Patan High Court’s directive. Today, sources confirm that Sayus Shrestha, a resident of Gauradaha in Jhapa, was successfully apprehended by the police in Ratopul, Kathmandu.

This arrest marks a significant step towards justice for the assault on Professor Prem Chalaune, and authorities are expected to continue their efforts to bring the remaining accused to justice.
