UN Secretary-General Returns to New York

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has returned to New York after concluding a fruitful four-day official visit to Nepal. During his visit, Guterres engaged in a series of high-level discussions, highlighting the importance of the UN’s relationship with Nepal.

Guterres, who arrived in Nepal on Sunday night, conducted a series of diplomatic meetings with key figures in the Nepalese government, including President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Speaker Devraj Ghimire, as well as leaders of various political parties, ministers, and other dignitaries.

One of the highlights of his visit was his notable address to a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, where he emphasized the significance of international cooperation and solidarity in addressing global challenges.

Apart from diplomatic engagements, Secretary-General Guterres also took the opportunity to explore the cultural and historical ties between Nepal and the UN. He undertook visits to significant sites such as the Annapurna Base Camp, Pokhara, and Lumbini, emphasizing the rich cultural and historical heritage shared between Nepal and the United Nations.

The visit concluded with Guterres departing from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on a Qatar Airways flight, marking the successful end of his mission to Nepal. His visit served to strengthen the partnership between Nepal and the United Nations and reaffirm the commitment to working together for a better, more peaceful world.
