Regal Sent to Banke Prison to Serve Remaining 11 Years and 11 Months
Following the Supreme Court’s recent verdict, Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal,’ has been sent to the Prison Office in Banke to serve the remaining 11 years, 11 months, and 5 days of his jail sentence.
Saroj Nidhi Wagle, the District Registrar at Banke District Court, confirmed that Regal’s incarceration began on Friday, just one day after the Supreme Court’s decision regarding his jail term. The Court had issued a verdict on Thursday, overturning the government’s previous decision to grant amnesty to Regal.
Narayan Dangi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office in Banke, revealed that Regal was presented in front of the Banke District Court earlier today for necessary legal proceedings. The development comes after Regal surrendered himself following the Supreme Court’s verdict.
Yog Raj Dhakal ‘Regal’ was initially serving a life sentence for the murder of Chetan Manandhar in Nepalgunj. President Ram Chandra Paudel, in observance of Constitution Day, had previously reduced Regal’s prison term based on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
The decision to send Regal to prison follows the Supreme Court’s order, reaffirming his original sentence and nullifying the government’s attempt to grant him amnesty. The development has generated significant public interest and discussion in Nepalgunj and beyond.
