BRI may bring uncertainty in Nepal: Former President Yadav
Ram Baran Yadav, the first president of the Republic of Nepal, commented that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) could introduce uncertainty to Nepal.
During the book launch event for “Nepal From Monarchy To Republic,” authored by Professor Lokraj Baral and held in Kathmandu on Friday, former President Yadav expressed his concerns, stating, “Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports in Nepal are not operational. How far can the BRI take ? Two percent interest has to be paid for Pokhara Airport. Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports are empty, and the BRI may bring about uncertainty in Nepal.”
Regarding the book, Professor Krishna Khanal and well-known political analysts Krishna Hachethu, Indra Adhikari, and Tulanarayan Sah praised it for providing a simple and accurate account of Nepal’s political history from the Rana regime to the most recent elections.
The author, Professor Baral, shared that he based the book on his experiences in academic and diplomatic life, with a focus on strengthening democracy. The book explores the interplay of internal political dynamics and external influences.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai was also in attendance at the book launch event.
