Mayor Shah Allows ‘Deusi-Bhailo’ in Kathmandu Until 1 am!

In a festive move that has delighted citizens across the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Mayor Balen Shah has officially approved the extension of ‘deusi-bhailo’ celebrations until 1 am. This decision marks a departure from the previous restrictions that limited the traditional festivities to conclude by 9 pm.

The extension granted by Mayor Shah aims to provide revelers with more time to partake in the joyous and culturally significant ‘deusi-bhailo’ during the Tihar festival. This move not only promises a more vibrant celebration but also contributes to a safer environment for participants.

‘Deusi-bhailo,’ a cherished tradition in Nepal, encompasses lively folk songs and dances, bringing together people of all ages. The practice involves groups visiting various households within their community, singing melodious tunes, and performing traditional dances. As part of this tradition, participants collect money, sweets, and food, while offering blessings for prosperity and well-being.

The decision to extend the celebration hours has been met with enthusiasm from the community, as it allows for a more extensive and immersive experience of this cultural celebration. The Tihar festival, celebrated by Nepalis worldwide, holds deep cultural significance, and Mayor Shah’s decision is seen as a positive step toward preserving and promoting these traditions.
