Sudan Kirati Seeks to Ease Tensions After Religious Statement

Sudan Kirati, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, has responded to the recent uproar surrounding his comments on Christianity, aiming to clarify his stance and ease tensions.

During a public event on Wednesday, Minister Kirati’s statement, “Opposing Christianity means opposing the constitution, and those who oppose Christianity will be handcuffed,” triggered widespread criticism from parliamentary committees and social media users. Calls for his dismissal and demands for legal action intensified in the aftermath of his remarks.

In an effort to address the controversy, Minister Kirati took to social media to provide context and clarification. In a Facebook post, he expressed appreciation for the ongoing debate, emphasizing the importance of maintaining brotherhood and tolerance while adhering to constitutional values.

Minister Kirati stated, “I uphold the sanctity of every religion and respect the existence of all individuals. When I clean Pashupatinath, I call myself a Hindu; when I advocate Buddhist philosophy, I am a Buddhist; when I attend a Muslim program, I am a Muslim; when I attend a Christian program, I say I am a Christian. Let us treat all beings the same way. Ultimately, accepting the existence of another is to respect one’s own existence.”

The minister underscored his commitment to combating extremism and preserving national unity, addressing concerns raised by critics. While some remain skeptical, others appreciate the effort to clarify his position and defuse the controversy.

The incident has ignited discussions on the importance of religious tolerance and the role of public officials in promoting unity within diverse societies. As the debate continues, many are awaiting further developments and potential actions from governmental authorities in response to the controversy.
