Government Revokes Six Nepali Citizenship Certificates Over Fraudulent Details

The government has invalidated six Nepali citizenship certificates acquired through fraudulent means from the District Administration Office in Siraha. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, disclosed this information during a press briefing on Friday, where she also highlighted key decisions made during the Council of Ministers meetings held on December 21 and 28.

One of the notable decisions includes the formation of a joint technical task force, led by a joint secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MOCIT), to review and amend the Nepal-China Trade and Payment Agreement of 1981.

Additionally, the cabinet has given in-principle approval to draft a bill outlining the formation, operation, and conditions of services for the Nepal Special Service. Minister Sharma emphasized that this move is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing national security.

In a bid to provide clarity on the categorization of indigenous minorities, the cabinet decided to define them (excluding Dalits) as groups constituting less than 0.5 percent of the total population, based on the National Consensus of 2078 BS. This definition will be applicable for the National Assembly Member Election Act of 2075 BS.

Furthermore, the government has appointed Ramkrishna Adhiakri and Sushila Chaudhary as management, economic and printing advisor, and legal advisor, respectively, to the Gorkhapatra Corporation for a two-year term.

Several directives and policies were also approved, including guidelines for the use of social media by government offices, the national policy on people with disabilities (2079 BS), children policy (2079), national gender equality policy (2077), and the implementation action plan for the national health crisis management coordination directive (2080).

In environmental conservation efforts, the cabinet entrusted the management responsibility of the Annapurna Conservation Area and Manaslu Conservation Area to the National Trust for Nature Conservation.

Nepali Ambassador to Malaysia, Dilliraj Poudel, has been designated as a non-resident ambassador to the Philippines. Additionally, promotions were announced for two brigadier generals to the rank of major general and nine colonels to brigadier generals in the Nepal Army.

The government also took decisions related to land use in national forests for infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai-Madhes Expressway Road Project and the Sanjen Khola Hydropower Project.

Notably, Srijana (Malla) Rana and Lokbhakta Shamsher JB Rana have been nominated as members of the Dream Garden Development Committee for their exceptional contributions to the tourism and environment sector.

Lastly, Minister Sharma shared that public holidays and office hours for the year 2081 BS have been officially established, with extensions on Martyrs’ Day and Ram Navami.
