Prime Minister Prachanda Curtails Extravagant Cabinet Lunches

In a significant move towards financial prudence, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has initiated measures to reduce extravagant lunches traditionally served during Cabinet meetings. The new directive, issued by the Prime Minister himself, aims to curtail the lavish lunch offerings that were once the norm for these high-profile gatherings.

Sources within the prime minister’s secretariat revealed that the lunch for cabinet meetings has been significantly scaled down, with a directive to provide only tea and biscuits in case the meeting extends for a longer duration. This decision is expected to result in substantial cost savings, as millions of rupees were routinely expended on elaborate lunches held at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ office.

Cabinet meetings, occurring at least eight times a month, were associated with considerable expenses related to providing high-end meals. The new austerity measures are projected to bring about financial discipline and efficiency in government expenditures.

A source within the Prime Minister’s office stated, “The measures have commenced within the Prime Minister’s office. Previously, a more elaborate lunch was served during cabinet meetings compared to other sessions, but now it has been scaled back.”

This move follows Prime Minister Prachanda’s recent decision to reduce the workforce in the Prime Minister’s Office, where 68 employee positions were eliminated. The restructuring aims to streamline operations and exercise fiscal control, aligning with the government’s commitment to responsible financial management.
