UML Expands Central Committee and Condemns Tragic Incident in Sarlahi

The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML), the main opposition party, has decided to bolster its central committee with the addition of six new leaders. This decision was made during a Secretariat meeting convened at the central office in Chyasal on Friday.

General Secretary Shankar Pokharel officially announced the new additions to the central committee, comprising Tulsiram Neupane, Keshav Pande, Damodar Bhandari, Ramavatar Yadav, Binod Shah, and Deepak Karki. Each of these leaders represents different provinces, with Neupane representing Koshi, Pande representing Bagmati, Bhandari representing Sudur Paschim, Shah representing Karnali, Yadav representing Madhes, and Karki appointed as the party’s Jhapa chairman.

Expressing their condolences, the CPN-UML addressed an unfortunate incident that occurred in Sarlahi on Friday, resulting in the tragic death of 27-year-old Jayashankar Sah during a clash related to the Municipality Hospital’s operation in Barahathawa Municipality.

The CPN-UML squarely placed blame on the ruling party, alleging that they, as the entity responsible for maintaining peace and security, had instigated the situation. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel emphasized that the government had failed to ensure the safety of the people, stating, “The government failed to ensure people’s safety; we express our condolences for the incident.”
