Maoist Center Finalizes Candidates for National Assembly Elections
In a decisive meeting held on Sunday, the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Center (CPN-Maoist Center) has officially chosen its candidates to contest the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections scheduled for January 25.
The meeting, chaired by prominent party officials, concluded with the confirmation of six individuals who will represent the party in the elections. Maoist Center spokesperson Agni Sapkota stated, “The majority of the candidates have been confirmed. There will be a coalition meeting shortly, and the final selections will be made afterward.”
The finalized list of candidates includes:
1) Champadevi Karki – representing Koshi
2) Shreekrishna Adhikari – representing Bagmati
3) Manrupa Sharma – representing Gandaki
4) Jhakku Prasad Subedi – representing Lumbini
5) Bishnu Bishwakarma – representing Karnali
6) Renu Chand – representing Sudurpaschim
In adherence to the power-sharing agreement within the ruling coalition, the CPN-Maoist Center has secured six out of the 19 seats that will be contested in the National Assembly elections.
A coalition meeting is expected shortly, where further discussions and consensus-building will take place before finalizing the nominations. The nomination registration for the elections is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 8, with the elections set to be held on January 25.
