Consult Before You Speak: Madhav Nepal Hits Back at PM Dahal’s Royal Probe Statements
Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party and former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, voiced his objections to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s statements regarding the investigation into the Royal massacre of 2001.
Speaking at a program in Janakpur on Thursday, Chairman Nepal expressed his discontent, highlighting the lack of consultation with concerned parties before making public statements on such a serious matter.
Chairman Nepal drew a comparison with the practices of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, emphasizing the importance of seeking advice during similar incidents. He stated, “Now the Prime Minister has talked about investigating again. It would have been good to have some advice on such matters.”
Expressing his disappointment, Chairman Nepal mentioned, “We have not been consulted either. He should have asked me. At least Girijababu used to ask me. Prachandaji has the habit of speaking abruptly.”
Calling for proper consultation, Chairman Nepal asserted, “It makes sense that those who have finished their lineage do it, and those who are left do it. Since CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli later became the Home Minister and also the Prime Minister, he has received a lot of information that he should be asked.”
Shifting his focus to the ruling coalition, Chairman Nepal predicted its endurance for five years. He hinted that some individuals within the alliance might find it challenging to navigate without its support, especially as he underlined the importance of unity within the coalition.
The criticism from Chairman Nepal raises questions about the internal dynamics of the ruling coalition and the handling of sensitive matters such as the Royal massacre investigation. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the statements made by key figures within the coalition may have implications for the future course of action.
