Federal Parliament Set to Convene on Monday
In a significant development, the Federal Parliament is scheduled to convene on Monday, with President Ramchandra Paudel heeding the government’s recommendation to summon the House of Representatives for a session on February 5.
According to Dasharath Dhamala, the Assistant Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, all necessary preparations for the upcoming winter session have been completed. The session is expected to address a comprehensive agenda, including discussions on 24 bills currently in the federal parliament. Of these, 15 bills are under consideration in various parliamentary committees.
Assistant Spokesperson Dhamala highlighted that the upcoming session will also feature pre-budget discussions, adding another layer of significance to the parliamentary proceedings.
As of now, the distribution of seats in the 275-member House of Representatives includes 88 members from the Nepali Congress, 78 from the CPN (UML), 32 from the CPN (Maoist Center), 21 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 14 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 12 from the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP), 10 from the CPN (Unified Socialist), 6 from the Janamat Party, 4 from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and 4 from the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
Additionally, there is one representative each from Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, Aam Janata Party, and two independent MPs in the House of Representatives. The constitutional provision dictates a total of 275 members, with 165 elected through the electoral system based on geography and population, and 110 elected through the proportional election system.
