Oli Stresses Democracy’s Value
On the occasion of Democracy Day today, the Chairman of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, took to social media to underscore the significance of democracy in Nepal’s political landscape.
In his message, Chairman Oli highlighted the historical context of Democracy Day, commemorating the overthrow of the autocratic Rana regime on the 7th of Falgun. He emphasized that the true value of democracy becomes apparent in contrast to autocracy, asserting that democracy provides a platform for citizens to question and assess its benefits.
“Today is the 7th of Falgun, the day when the autocratic Rana regime was overthrown, and democracy was established. The importance of democracy is truly recognized in the presence of autocracy,” Chairman Oli wrote in his social media post. “In times of democracy, the benefits it brings may sometimes be overlooked. It’s only within a democratic framework that we can talk about what democracy has given. Happy Democracy Day.”
Chairman Oli’s remarks come at a time when Nepal continues to navigate its democratic journey amid various challenges and political transitions. His emphasis on democracy’s intrinsic value serves as a reminder of its role in fostering citizen participation, accountability, and governance.
