Armed Police Establish Disaster Management Base in Narchang, Myagdi
In a proactive step towards enhancing disaster response capabilities, the Armed Police Force has inaugurated a disaster management base in Narchang of Annapurna rural municipality-4 in Myagdi.
Led by a police inspector, a specialized unit comprising 25 armed police personnel trained in disaster management has been established at the base. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Kumar Poudel highlighted the base’s strategic location along the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Highway, aiming to expedite search and rescue operations in the event of disasters in Myagdi, Mustang, Baglung, and Parbat districts.
Previously, search and rescue efforts in these districts necessitated the deployment of armed police teams from Pokhara and Kurintar, leading to delays. Police Inspector Fadindra Gole emphasized that the newly formed unit is equipped with personnel trained specifically for disaster response.
The APF base is situated in a building provided by a hydropower project in Narchang, managed by the Annapurna rural municipality. This building, initially utilized as a temporary hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, now serves as a critical hub for disaster management efforts.
Moreover, the armed police force has initiated community-level training sessions in basic search and rescue skills in Myagdi, underscoring a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness and response.
The establishment of the disaster management base signifies a significant step towards bolstering local resilience and ensuring swift and effective responses to emergencies, ultimately safeguarding lives and property in the region.
