Why Did Deuba Engage in Talks with Madhav Nepal?
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal convened today for discussions at Chair Nepal’s residence in Koteshwar. The meeting, held against the backdrop of evolving political dynamics, saw the two leaders delve into the latest developments reshaping the country’s political landscape.
Sources privy to the discussions disclosed that President Deuba extended an olive branch to Chair Nepal, expressing a keen interest in forging collaboration. Notably, Deuba signaled his openness to endorse Madhav Nepal for the position of Prime Minister, urging him to consider joining forces.
In response, Madhav Nepal conveyed his intention to convene a meeting of the Unified Socialist party’s Secretariat, suggesting a deliberate assessment of the proposed course of action.
Reflecting on the meeting’s atmosphere, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak, who was present during the talks, described the engagement as positive. Lekhak emphasized that both parties were poised to reconvene for further discussions following the Unified Socialist party’s Secretariat Meeting slated for today.
Tuesday witnessed a flurry of political activity as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, and other key figures engaged in discussions with Chair Nepal at his Koteshwar residence.
Ghanshyam Bhusal, General Secretary of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Party, shed light on Chair Nepal’s receptiveness towards the burgeoning alliance spearheaded by Maoist Chair and Prime Minister Prachanda, which encompasses UML, RSP, and JSP.
The seismic political realignment witnessed Prachanda’s departure from the Nepali Congress fold to form a new alliance with UML, sidelining traditional political equations. Despite this shift, Prachanda has extended an invitation to Madhav Nepal, once again highlighting the fluid nature of political alliances.
UML Chair Oli has also extended overtures to Madhav Nepal, underscoring a willingness to transcend past rivalries in pursuit of a unified front.
