UML to Join Dahal’s Government with 8 Ministers; Raghubir Mahaseth to Lead Party in Cabinet
The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) has revealed its roster of eight ministers slated to assume crucial positions in the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
The Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) has announced its decision to join the government under the leadership of party Secretary Raghubir Mahaseth.
According to Pradip Gyawali, the spokesperson of CPN-UML, Raghubir Mahaseth is set to assume the role of Deputy Prime Minister along with the portfolio of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport. This move marks a pivotal moment in Nepal’s political landscape, with key figures from CPN-UML stepping into prominent positions within the government.
Notably, Bhagwati Chaudhary, Damodar Bhandary, Jwala Kumar Sah, Hari Prasad Upreti, and Balram Adhikari, all from CPN-UML, are also slated to join the government. While Mahaseth and Adhikari are new entrants to the government, the other UML ministers have prior experience, having served in the Maoist-UML coalition government formed post the 2022 election.
Padam Giri, a prominent UML leader, has already taken the oath as a minister in Dahal’s government, signaling the party’s commitment to this new coalition.
Sources within CPN-UML reveal that initially, the party was poised to join the government under the leadership of Vice President Bishnu Poudel. However, as the party’s demand for influential ministries went unmet, they decided to align with Mahaseth’s leadership within the government.
